Research

Questions worth testing.

MOVE has years of observation, a physical platform, a developing architecture, and a growing set of researchable questions. We separate what has been observed, what theory suggests, what MOVE hypothesizes, and what has not yet been established.

Evidence discipline

Keep the categories separate.

01

Observed

What happened in a documented interaction, without assigning an unsupported cause or universal meaning.

02

Interpreted

A reasonable explanation grounded in existing theory or prior work, clearly identified as interpretation.

03

Untested

A MOVE-specific mechanism, outcome, or extension that remains a hypothesis until it is studied directly.

The human-human edge

What changes when another autonomous person adapts back?

Many systems adapt conditions around one participant. MOVE is especially interested in reciprocal situations where two or more people continually become part of one another's conditions.

Each person can influence the opportunity without gaining ownership over the other's resolving response. The environment changes, the arrows cross, and the people remain distinct.

Working research territory: reciprocal co-construction of uncertainty and adaptive opportunity while individual agency remains intact.

Current questions

Does shared Cube play sustain productive surprise differently from solitary object play?

Another person can notice, respond, and alter the situation in ways a static object cannot.

When does a shared object become less important than the interaction it helped begin?

This tests whether object-mediated attention can transition into direct human-human relevance.

How do people spontaneously author constraints and challenges?

Participants may invent rules, roles, difficulties, handicaps, or collaborations without receiving a prescribed game.

How does play change across different levels of physical and social unpredictability?

The goal is not maximum chaos. It is understanding conditions where curiosity, agency, and continued engagement remain available.

Can technology increase resolution without becoming the interaction?

Sensing and computation may help measure or alter conditions while remaining subordinate to the human encounter.

Measurement without turning play into a score

Observe the interaction without deciding what success must look like.

  • Persistence and voluntary return
  • Exploratory diversity and movement variability
  • Turn-taking and role switching
  • Gaze shifts and mutual orientation
  • Laughter, vocal timing, and social signaling
  • Re-engagement after surprise or failed attempts
  • Changes in the environment authored by participants
  • Physiological information only when appropriate and authorized

The larger architecture

The Cube is one public expression, not the boundary of the work.

MOVE Adaptive Interaction Architecture is a generalized way of organizing changing objectives, constraints, environments, information, and interaction while preserving more than one valid response.

Potential embodiments extend across physical and digital environments, human facilitation, wearables, robotics, community systems, and future adaptive technologies. The public website describes the principle; patent counsel determines the legal scope.

Scientific rigor does not make the human experience smaller. It helps us say exactly what we know.
